Ono Island with booms

Ono Island with booms

The famous Ono Island* with booms deployed to keep oil from the BP Deepwater Horizon spill from coming ashore. The day after I took this picture there were about five or six more booms deployed on this end of the island. Two days later oil arrived in Perdido Pass (just off the left of the frame).

This is my first attempt at a decent HDR. I'm not a big fan of the technique but I can't comment unless I have some experience with it and I enjoy trying out different techniques. I don't think I'd call this a resounding success, but I suppose it's acceptable, if only for the sake of being a marker of progress for later experiments.

  • Ono Island was very popular in the 80s and 90s with celebrities. Many are rumored to have homes on the island, including Britney Spears, Tom Selleck, Jimmy Buffett, and others. Seeing as how it's a private island with a guard gate at the bridge, I have no way of knowing if the rumors are true.
